FEAR EATS THE SOUL

By Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Epilogue  by Khashayar Naderehvandi

FEAR EATS THE SOUL is a swedified version of Fassbinders classic, set in modern day Skåne - the most right populistic part of Sweden. It explores themes of love, rasism and the power of internalization. Working with the the frame of Fassbinders relationship to the original main character, El Hedi Ben Salem, the play seeks to question how plays about rasism made by white men (in this case white women) can really change or if we will always be bound to follow and fall in to the power of unconscious structures, reproducing the same oppression we try to criticize.

"Sara Berg likes everything she sees in Helle Rosings' version at Intiman in Malmö."

"The ensemble is at its best in sharp turns and grotesque role changes – succeeding in landing in seriousness. Rossings' version, with a burning epilogue by Khashayar Naderehvandi, presents a tightly twisted but urgently important image of relationships between Swedes and 'foreigners' today."
